Walter Cueva, AMFT
About Walter
Walter is a therapist and a Yoga Teacher who brings a holistic, integrative approach to mental health and wellness. With a unique blend of traditional psychotherapy and somatic healing techniques, Walter supports individuals and couples in navigating life’s challenges and achieving meaningful transformation. His work centers on the mind-body connection, with an emphasis on restoring balance, deepening self-awareness, and cultivating resilience.

Therapeutic Approach
Walter’s approach draws from evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). In addition to traditional therapy, he incorporates somatic practices such as mindfulness, breathwork, and body-based awareness to support emotional regulation and trauma recovery. His integrative method is grounded in the belief that healing requires both cognitive insight and embodied experience, allowing clients to reconnect with themselves and move forward with intention and clarity.

He specializes in working with relationship and intimacy challenges, trauma recovery, anxiety, self-worth, and life transitions. Whether guiding individuals through periods of emotional dysregulation or helping couples rebuild connection and trust, Walter provides a grounded, empathetic presence in the therapy room.

Education & Professional Background
Walter earned his Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University with an emphasis on serving the Latinx community. He also holds a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Business and IT Management from California Lutheran University. His diverse academic background allows him to approach client care with a balance of structure and flexibility.

Walter’s journey into psychotherapy was deeply influenced by his own lived experience. Born and raised in Peru, he moved to the United States at 19 and later served in the U.S. Navy as an Electrical Supervisor, where he cultivated resilience, adaptability, and a strong sense of service. His personal experience with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and subsequent healing through holistic methods further deepened his dedication to integrative mental health.

Outside of Therapy
Outside of his clinical work, Walter enjoys heated yoga, working out, and dancing. He is passionate about exploring the intersection of psychology, wellness, and culture and brings that curiosity into both his personal life and therapeutic work. Bilingual in Spanish and English, Walter is committed to providing inclusive care and building bridges across communities.
